Crisis Intervention Training Simulation Beta

This simulation asks the question: “Can we use the realism aspect of virtual simulations to further enhance the quality, distribution, and feedback for police crisis role-play training?” We follow guidelines suggested by the National Alliance on Mental Illness’s Crisis Intervention Team training sessions, in order to teach empathy and verbal de-escalation skills in an effective, inexpensive, and accountable way.

This is the MVP of the simulation. We are now rebuilding the assets, enhancing the UX and UI, and implementing buttons that would allow for failure. In late October, we are running our first study on the Alachua County Police. This project made me realize the importance of designing for the user, effective collaboration between disciplines, utilizing the full product development cycle, and how to manage and demo a project.

Experience the simulation! If you get stuck, use the guide. It is created using Unity 3D and Maya. It is currently only available in Web GL but with promising results after the study is anticipated to be a VR simulation and certification training. I am currently the project manager, UX designer, game designer, animator, and researcher.
